How to Choose the Best Soccer Rebounder

The best soccer rebounder depends on what you want to train, how old the player is and where you will use it. For a big net that works for the whole family, the SPOT Soccer Rebounder 7x7' gives a large 7x7ft face and a forgiving looping return. For first touch and passing on the ground, a rebound board such as the REPLAY Station 4-in-1 Soccer Rebound Board is the most versatile choice, because it gives both predictable and random returns and folds flat. For volleys and aerial control, choose a net that lifts the ball, such as a TEKKERS net or the PRO Rebounder.

Rebound board or rebounder net?

This is the first decision, because the two work differently.

Rebound boards are solid panels that sit on the ground. A board returns the ball with the energy you put in, so it rewards firm, accurate passing along the ground. Boards are compact: the REPLAY Station is 37.5in wide, folds flat and fits in a car trunk. The REPLAY Station family has two faces and two angles, so one board covers ground passes, one-touch layoffs, half volleys and random returns. See all rebound boards.

Rebounder nets give a bigger target, and many lift the ball into the air. That makes nets the better choice for chest and thigh control, volleys and heading. Some nets slow the ball down on purpose, which helps beginners. Nets take up more space and need ground stakes or weights to hold them in place. See all rebounder nets.

Many players use both: a board for passing and first touch on the ground, and a net for aerial work.

What kind of return do you need?

Predictable or random

A predictable return lets a player repeat the same technique many times. A random return forces quick feet and fast decisions. Every REPLAY Station has a flat face for predictable returns and a raised, ribbed face for random rebounds. The TEKKERS Air 2-in-1 has a wave side for controlled pop-ups and a flat ground-pass face.

Slow and forgiving, or game speed

The SPOT loop-pass net floats the ball back slower and in an arc, so kids have time to set their body shape and control it. The PRO Rebounder and the Barrier Net & Rebounder use tensioned nets for a crisp return at real game pace.

Along the ground or in the air

For ground passing, a board is the natural choice. The PRO Rebounder's Negative Angle Mode tilts the frame past vertical to send top-spin ground passes back low. For aerial control, TEKKERS nets turn a firm ground pass into a chest or thigh-height return, and the upper zone of the PRO Rebounder 5x5' and 7x7' feeds air passes for chest, thigh and volley work.

Solo training, two players or a whole team

  • Solo: any REPLAY Station, SPOT, TEKKERS Net or PRO Rebounder works as a training partner that never tires.
  • Two players: the TEKKERS Trainer has two independent nets, so two players can train at the same time.
  • Teams: the Barrier Net & Rebounder 12x6' is double-sided and also works as a ball-stop net or field divider. Several REPLAY Blocks link into a rebound line or wall, a REPLAY Block pairs with the REPLAY Defender Mannequin as the REPLAY Defender & Block System, and RXTR Pro Coach runs up to 6 lights for multi-board sessions. See team training rebounders.
  • Goalkeepers: the Handheld Rebounder lets a coach create unpredictable deflections for reaction saves. See goalkeeper training equipment.

Skills: what each rebounder trains

  • First touch and passing: REPLAY Station, REPLAY Station XL, REPLAY Station Plus, REPLAY Boombox, SPOT.
  • Volleys, chest and thigh control: TEKKERS Net, TEKKERS Net XL, PRO Rebounder, REPLAY Block (volley-height face).
  • Weak foot and one-touch play: the PRO Rebounder is made for weak-foot accuracy and one-touch combinations, and the REPLAY Station flat face for one-touch layoffs.
  • Scanning and reactions: RXTR Pro Coach. The REPLAY Station, REPLAY Station XL, REPLAY Station Plus and REPLAY Boombox also work with the RXTR Reaction Training Light (sold separately). See reaction rebounders.

Space and surface

Boards suit small backyards, patios and the sideline. Nets need more room: the SPOT 8x5' is 8x5ft across and about 3ft deep when assembled, and the SPOT 7x7' has a full 7x7ft face.

On grass, SPOT and TEKKERS nets use the included ground stakes. On turf or hard ground, add a QUICKPLAY Base Weight to SPOT, while TEKKERS nets have a weighted base. For gym floors, the REPLAY Boombox, REPLAY Block and TEKKERS Air all have rubber feet or a rubber build. Drain the Boombox tank in freezing weather, and do not leave a filled unit on wooden floors.

Want a goal and rebounder in one?

The KICKSTER 2-in-1 Soccer Goal / Soccer Rebounder 8x5' swaps between a goal net and a rebounder panel, and suits players aged 5 and up. The TEKKERS GS Trainer 3-in-1 7x5' is a steel goal with an angled rebounder on the back and a top panel that lays flat as a ground-pass wall. See combo goals and rebounders.

Soccer rebounder FAQs

What is the best soccer rebounder?

For most families, the SPOT Soccer Rebounder 7x7' is the best all-round rebounder net: its 7x7ft face is easy to hit, its looping return gives time to control the ball, and it sets up in under 2 minutes. For passing and first touch on the ground, the REPLAY Station 4-in-1 is the best rebound board, with predictable and random returns from one unit. Serious players who want game-speed returns should look at the PRO Rebounder.

Are rebound boards better than rebounder nets?

Neither is better for everything. Rebound boards are best for passing and first touch along the ground, and a board is compact and folds flat. Rebounder nets are best for aerial control, volleys and younger players, because they can lift the ball and some slow it down. If you train both, a REPLAY Station for the ground and a TEKKERS or PRO Rebounder net for the air covers most skills.

What is the best soccer rebounder for kids?

For young children and beginners, the SPOT Soccer Rebounder is the easiest to learn with. Its loop-pass net floats the ball back at a pace kids can handle, which gives time to control it and play the next pass. It comes in 5x3', 8x5' and 7x7', sets up in under 2 minutes and packs into a carry bag. As players improve, a REPLAY Station adds faster, random returns.

Can you use a soccer rebounder indoors?

Yes. The REPLAY Boombox has anti-slide rubber feet for turf, gym floors and grass, and its fillable tank means no sandbags. The REPLAY Block and TEKKERS Air 2-in-1 also grip indoor floors. Do not leave a filled Boombox on a wooden floor, and drain it in freezing weather. SPOT nets need a QUICKPLAY Base Weight on hard floors.

What does 4-in-1 mean on a REPLAY Station?

4-in-1 means two faces and two angles. The flat face gives predictable returns for ground passing and one-touch layoffs, and the ribbed face gives random rebounds for reactions. Changing the angle switches between low driven returns and higher returns for half volleys and aerial control. That gives four types of return from one board.

What size soccer rebounder should I buy?

Buy the biggest face that fits your space and suits the player's accuracy. A bigger face means less time chasing missed passes, which helps younger players. A smaller face such as the PRO Rebounder 3x3' rewards precise strikes. Boards save space: the REPLAY Station is 37.5in wide and the REPLAY Station XL is 47.2in wide.
